WHY YOU SHOULD STOP F**KING AROUND AND CHOOSE YOUR NICHE.
CURRENTLY LOVING has officially re-launched! This time, we're skipping the small talk and going straight to the gritty stuff. We're meeting with the elephant in the room: she wants to talk about your niche.
When is it okay to shut off?
Lately, I've been inclined to re-think my mindset around productivity and the glorified "hustle": it turns out all work and no sleep isn't all it's set out to be.
Day in the Life of a Social Media Manager
It’s one of those rare, calm days here in Wellington city. I’ve taken to the waterfront, as I often do, for a little break from my laptop screen. It’s Monday. It’s the 18th of September. Like the bay, I am content. As I wander, Siri documents my words. I look odd to the scattering of people whom I pass and yet, it doesn’t faze me. It is far more satisfying to adjourn with fresh air than it is with a blank Pages document. Fortunately I talk much the way I write anyway. More than talking, I find…
Done with the To-Do.
Well, well, well. By all means, it has been a while. I’m not going to apologise for when I leave writing for yet another month, it’ll only feel redundant. I will say this: it hasn’t been a choice thing. I miss my little baby. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or remember, but I did a whole make-over session and then disappeared (apart from on Instagram, which oddly, I always seem to find time to prioritise). It was like a Gok series, except I never walked a naked catwalk because I grew too busy and forgot that my wardrobe…
First Year Uni: What I really learnt.
Last Thursday at 10.30am, I completed my first year at university. While it carried with it a sense of relief, The End docked with much less triumph than I imagined it would. It felt indefinite, unsure if this was the destination, if we’d even boarded the right ship. For weeks now, people have been filtering out of the halls. I’ve fought with final days, with wind, rain and Descartes theories condensed on an A4 piece of paper. And despite how it couldn’t have come sooner, the end of first year has given rise to an oddly unattached emotion. I imagine retiring will…
Welcome to Failure; good to be here.
“This is a soft generation. You quit on everything.. I dare you to take a little pain.” Back in the early days of high school, I first heard Eric Thomas’s words. He spat them with such power from my laptop screen, they drove me through mid-years and finals. A few weeks back -at a time when I needed them most – I scrolled down the length of my youtube history. It was a dull Thursday morning, but over the next twenty minutes, Eric Thomas would radiate out of my speakers. Here I was to rediscover the impact of his words.…
Loud Places
My haven at the moment, it’s in the middle of The Hub at Victoria Uni. More than a study zone, this is a locale for “social study”; a place which regardless of the books in front of us is inviting of guests. Alone, we dither away time between lectures people-watching. We indulge in teriyaki chicken sushi, the $8 berrylicious smoothie we can’t really afford. It’s okay, or so we tell ourselves, because the goji aids in curation of aesthetic study, and with all that vitamin C, in rejuvenation; lunch was curry again. For all it’s hilarity, I love the student lifestyle. Half…
