8 things I wish I said at #NZFW.
We've all walked away from an event, a person, or a circumstance and wished we'd said certain things. Here's 8 I wish I said at NZFW, as well as a taste for Day Three events; my thoughts on emerging and established designers.
DAY 4 // INTERVIEW WITH EMERGING DESIGNER, CARLEY ROSE THE LABEL.
Emerging designers don't just stand out for nothing. In the case of Carley Rose The Label, there's more than enough reason to take notice. In the following interview, I talk to Carley about her latest collection, the way she measures her own success, and finally, when she feels most confident.
“There’s a lot I don’t relate to about fashion.”
Day Three of Fashion Week, and thanks to Blair Archibald, I come to terms with the fact that I don't agree nor relate to everything about fashion and its world. But can we still like, admire and enjoy something.. whilst positioning ourselves in its grey area?
Day in the Life of a Social Media Manager
It’s one of those rare, calm days here in Wellington city. I’ve taken to the waterfront, as I often do, for a little break from my laptop screen. It’s Monday. It’s the 18th of September. Like the bay, I am content. As I wander, Siri documents my words. I look odd to the scattering of people whom I pass and yet, it doesn’t faze me. It is far more satisfying to adjourn with fresh air than it is with a blank Pages document. Fortunately I talk much the way I write anyway. More than talking, I find…
So.. what are you doing with your life?
It is on two occasions – both at family dinner and in midst of NZFW – that I’ve found life tends to raise a hand with its most frequently asked question. So what exactly are you planning to do with me, it asks. Well, not in so many words. Like many a doubts it has, it projects this one by way of intrigued (otherwise, arguably snide) individuals. “So where are you taking this?”, they ask, never not sending me into a haze of self-questioning: Should I know? Wait, what is it I want to do…
So you think you’re above NZFW?
The last few days, majority of us media hounds have frequented Viaducts Events Centre for the infamous NZFW. I needn’t tell you though – it’s been everywhere. To an audience of international buyers as well as to the fashionably-swayed of the public (whether socially, stylishly or both), a range of both renowned and upcoming designers have showcased the best of their coming Spring collections. For someone like me, this is exciting. The art of dressing everyday is one in which, for the most part, I take very seriously. I believe in its capacity for great things, these that…
How to attend NZFW // A First Timer’s Guide
That I feel reasonably at home at NZFW nowadays is hardly to say I always did. In fact, being here again often reminds me of the unfortunate way I did start out. One of my friends (and once photographer) Mallory – long-time followers may recall the name – joined me at a show just yesterday. We talked of old NZFW posts here on Currently Loving, particularly our previous shoot locations (if behind restaurants of Wynyard Quarter is deserving of such credibility). Around this time, blurry photos were acceptable. So too was shit lighting and quoting yourself in your own…
